Tom Marriott sacrifices
the currently favoured pin end with a port-tack crossing behind Jack
Coleman. I liked this start since it kept you away from the dead spots
nearer the windward shore and if the next shift was - as anticipated -
a port-tack knock, should leave Tom in fine shape. Going over towards
the south shore was a bit of a lottery play: sometimes there are juicy
gusts and fine port lifts to be had there, but the major danger of huge
dead spots also exists. All in all, it's a lot easier on the nerves to
go up the middle of the lake in these south winds.
