| Not too many takers for the left
side of the beat here: (l to r) Richard,
Lori, Gale, Jim, Ellen, Ted ... |
![]() |
| Lori has wisely tacked to clear
her air while Jim (1904), Jeff (3917) and Ellen hold port tack. ... |
![]() |
| Jim (l) and Geoff head over to the left
while Richard continues on port tack. ... |
![]() |
| I think that's Bob Williams (l) but I don't know who's with him
here. ... |
![]() |
| Jim heads left - his jib should
come in a bit so that main and jib are in parallel trim. I do believe that's race leaders Joe and Nick on the left heading over to see if they remain ahead of Al. ... |
![]() |
| Mike and Chuck are in fine trim
as they, too, head left. ... |
![]() |
| Their jib now properly trimmed,
Jim and Gary (1904) pinch out from under Mike and Chuck. ... |
![]() |
| Fine form form for Richard and
Michele who have decided to gamble by leaving the fleet and going
extreme right. ... |
![]() |
| As do Gale and Francois whose
main or vang could use more tension. ... |

| The start of the second run: It
a close race among Al, Jim (2458) and Joe (1115). The wind is beginning
to swing back clockwise towards its earlier direction, and Al and Joe
have gybed accordingly to sail a broad port reach straight down the
rhumb line. ... |
![]() |
| As Al and Marc settle in after
their gybe, Jim (1904) and Ellen come in towards the windward mark on
port. ... |
![]() |
|
Al has been getting excessive
helm and is therefore standing in the boat so that he can more easily
move his weight to windward to counteract the noticeable weather helm
he's been feeling. After the race, Al discovered that his rudder blade
had angled itself aft about 5° - once he pushed it back down to
vertical, the excess helm was gone - amazing how much difference such a
small thing can make!
... |

| While Nick concentrates on his
spinnaker, Joe keeps an eye on his surroundings, most notably Jim
Heffernan who went left early and is now coming back towards the rhumb
line. ... |
![]() |
| Uncle Al leans over a bit to
visually confirm that he's on the straight line towards the leeward
mark. ... |
![]() |
| Note how Jim Heffernan is flying
the chute while steering with his knees as Linda completes a gybe by resetting the pole on its new side. ... |
![]() |
| Dave Hepting fine-tunes a winged
jib while Peter Hylen continues to give the race leaders all they can
handle, even with only two sails flying. ... |

| The starboard-tack lay line
finds Ellen (6751) chasing ... ... |
![]() |
| ... Jeff (3917), Jim (1904) and
Mike (2959) as Lori approaches on port tack. ... |

|
At the upcoming leeward mark (far left) one of the RC's mark
boat is about to inform us that the windward mark has been moved a
second time, to the right, in order to keep the final beat truly
upwind. Uncle Al maintains a modest lead over Joe (1115) and Jim (2458).

| Jim Lingeman and Randy Boekema
(3991) have snuck past Mike (2959) and Jeff, and now ... ... |
![]() |
| ... Jim and Gary appear ready to
do likewise. ... |
![]() |
| Uncle Al and Marc chomp along
towards a first-place finish, making sure they remain between 2nd-place Joe and the finish line at all times. |
