Tony and Mary approach the RC
boat. In this pivotal race 3, Marc (3854) will have the task of trying
to beat Dwight and give SHADES the
all-important edge in the series. Both Dwight and Pat, and Marc and Al
are sitting with 1-2 finishes while the next best record in the fleet
is a 3-5. So Marc and Al will have strategic eyes only for Dwight and
Pat in this race.

| A major back (counter-clockwise
shift) in the wind direction during the final minute of the countdown
has made it hard for starboard tackers like Dave Hansman above, to
cross the line. ... |

An alert Marc Bennett (3854)
has taken a calculated risk by sailing away from Dwight and rushing to
the now very favoured leeward end. But as the gun goes (above), it is John and Dolores de
Boer who again nail a perfect port-tack start and get the early lead.
Not to mention that the de Boers are sailing the favoured tack!!

| Somewhat belatedly, Michael (l) luffs up to shoot the start
mark. Meanwhile, Team SHADES holds on a bit longer to avoid tacking into John's (7351) backwind. ... |

A few minutes later: Dave and
Carol Hansman (r) took a big
chance and banged the left corner, and like the lottery, once in a
while it pays off. Certainly, the left side seemed to be getting better
pressure, and those who went left early made out very well. (l to r) Michael, Marc, John, Dave

Starting the run of this
windward-leeward course, Dave and Carol Hansman have a huge lead,
considering the size of the course. Tony and Mary (4105) are holding
2nd ahead of John (7351) while Marc and Al (red spi) have rounded 4th
after sticking - as they really had to - with Dwight who "led" them
into the far left side. -
