the Warm Water Regatta
Conestoga SC, June 9-10, 2007
a report from Leo Van Kampen
First Carling Trophy Win for Dwight and Pat Aplevich

Light, fluky winds and glorious sunshine greeted the racers on both Saturday and Sunday of the 2007 Warm Water hosted by the Conestoga SC northwest of Kitchener-Waterloo. Six Wayfarers and eight Lasers from the Fanshawe Yacht Club in London, the Toronto Sailing and Canoe Club and Conestoga took part on Saturday. Only Wayfarers sailed on Sunday after waiting until noon for the wind to come up. Pat and Dwight Aplevich took first place and the Carling Trophy, followed by Mike Codd with Kirk Iredale. Al Nichols and crew, Ken Nethercott, placed 3rd.  There was quite a shake-up in the placement order as there were 3 winners of the Most Improved flags.  All beating their seed by one place were Teams Codd and Nichols, as well as Leo and Jo Van Kampen.

The above picture shows Ken Nethercott concentrating on getting the spinnaker to fill in very light wind.
