NBYC Canada Day Race
... Only
three W's were in the Canada Day race. Dave Richardson and I
sailed in Banshee, Sue
Pilling / Steph Romaniuk in Mystic
and John / Dolores in Silver Fox.
On the strength of an excellent start in drifter conditions, Dave and I
won in a time of about 2 hr 34 min, 9 min 3 sec ahead of Sue / Steph
who in turn were exactly 30 seconds ahead of John / Dolores.
There was virtually no wind for the first half hour but then it
built into a nice SW breeze approaching 15 knots by the time we were
half-way to mark J5. Dave and I stayed low to the J5 mark which
required us having to tack, bearing west for several hundred metres,
before rounding. The other two boats, along with the rest of the keel
boats went high and then had to bear off slightly to the mark.
From there on into the club it was spinnaker all the way. Winds
dropped to about 8 to 10 knots by the time we were within the bay...
Best regards,
Dave
