Race 5: start-1-2-3-1-3-finish. Winds SW at 8 to 12 knots, gusting to 20.
...

Leo (9667) - possibly barging - and Al (3854) get up to speed as the final few pre-start seconds tick away.
...

Dwight has gone for a pin-end start.
...

Nice as his start is, Dwight is now blocked from tacking to the lifted port tack by right-of-way boats to windward.
...

Al (3854) finds himself similarly blocked by Leo (9667). Marc (864) can tack here but ...
...

... leaves it too late - now Brian has him blocked.
...

Marc clears the pin while upwind of him, Al has tacked to ...
...

... port.
...

Both Al (l) and Dwight (r) are lifted on their respective tacks. Something will have to give.
...

So far so good for Dwight (4606) who has crossed Leo and Brian (6082).
...

Aha! Success!! Dwight crosses Uncle Al which probably gives Dwight the lead here. After a poor start, Al Nichols (l) has recovered well.
But photographic suggestions notwithstanding (it looks above like Al N. is nearing the mark on the port lay line here) ...
...

... no one is even close to the port lay line. Note that Dwight (l) seems to be well ahead of Uncle Al (r) here.
But this time, the spin of the windward-shore roulette wheel favours Uncle Al who ...
...

... emerges with a lead over Dwight - somehow.
...

In a day that's turned fairly breezy, Al Nichols is next around, followed by Leo ...
...

... Brian and Marc.
...

A fun reach with some planing but no chance of spinnakering.
...

Leo (r) and Daryl zip right along in rapid pursuit of ...
...

... Uncle Al (l) and Dwight. Both use ample vang to keep main twist to a minimum.
...

Backlit Brian and Marc look lovely on this reach.
