The second beat is well
underway. Uncle Al, with fine spinnaker work from Joanne under trying
circumstances, has extended his lead. Roger (2nd from left) has gotten away
with going so far right on the previous leg but has lost big distance
the other boats. Al Nichols has made a major comeback to move into 3rd
place, and Dwight (r) has
made huge gains to move up into 5th. But the guy to watch right here is
Marc who is getting far better breeze further off shore (before the
wind begins to lift up and over the lee shore). This is something that
has not escaped Al's notice, and he is working to claw his way further
off the shore as well. And thinking ahead to his upcoming spinnaker
hoist, Al informs Joanne that likely won't bear away to a run to help
Joanne float the spi around to the leeward side, because that would get
us too near the shore, not to mention to leeward of a line of boats.

all the way up to 2nd place as the wind, especially Marc's, begins to

... comfortable 2nd behind
Uncle Al. Brian has taken over 4th place while Roger got too close to
the lee shore and has fallen to 5th. Here you can see why Al will not
want to bear away during the upcoming spinnaker hoist, what with the
line of boats coming at him. Instead, he'll hold off on the spinny for
a bit. - click here

| There's a gap in the line after
Roger, so now Al is poised to very briefly bear away to a run, and do
the fastest hoist he can. ... |

| A pretty delayed hoist for SHADES but we do have two pieces of
good news: no screw-ups for us, and 2nd-place Marc is facing the same problems with boats coming the other way, and so, is also stuck with a belated hoist. - click here for full-size pic ... |

inside overlap and will proceed to take 2nd place behind Al S. and
ahead of Al N. Finishing 4-5-6 as they are here, were Brian, Mike and Roger. ... |

| Leo and Daryl spinnaker along
the lee shore. I believe that the card Julia was using in the CWA camera was filled up with this picture. So, thus ends our race coverage of Warm Water 2008. |
