In the chart above, the green
track represents the detour made by Al and Lucy, so that they could
pick up Frank. The latter was sailing back to Burton with the Peglers
who didn't want to overtax their kids with the longer sail to North
Hero and back. At the marina, we quickly took a bearing on North Hero
from the chart above - we'd have to pass just south of Knight Island
and then turn north about 5°, and that should land us right at
lunch. With a nice 10 - 15 knots of SW breeze, it would be a close
spinnaker reach to Knight Island. And let's face it, Lucy, Frank and I
had some catching up to, so the chute was called for.
...Ironically, there were no other Wayfarers in the bay at North Hero when we arrived. Later, we discovered that the other group had headed way too far north (see red track above) and ended up in a bay all right, but not one with a store - or lunch! |

| ... Hibbard Point. But we
had eaten once already, so Frank, Lucy and I decided to keep sailing
and head on back to camp (and wine and beer) while the winds were still
good!! ... |
