In our first hour or so
of sailing, the winds steadily increased a we beat up the river. On our
zag to go south of Carleton Island back
towards the south shore of the River, Julia and I noticed that a couple
of
Wayfarers had taken shelter in a small cove behind us. We decided to
check this out in case anyone needed help, and besides, a small beer
break seemed like an attractive option. It turned out that Ralph and
André had spied this welcome bit of shelter and decided to
explore its possibilities. We were made very welcome by a couple of
cottage owners
who offered refreshments and bathroom facilities as well as interesting
conversation. In the end, everyone except Dick Harrington
and Chuck Jordan ended up coming in here and making this our
destination. The latter continued doggedly
and admirably on to Cape Vincent where they met their ladies for lunch
and Chuck lost his wallet. Not to forget Bill and Margie who found the
upwind going slow and tough the way they were rigged and had headed
back to Cedar Point fairly
early in the proceedings.
