| Further off shore, the going was
painfully slow, though the ripples on the water would seem to indicate
that sailing might have been an option. But this picture is obviously
being taken from a Wayfarer being rowed, and Tony (l) has the oars out as well. ... |

Finally, Julia and Al ghosted
past the Point in the late afternoon. Julia is about to make the
supreme sacrifice of stepping off SHADES
into waist-deep water to wade ashore and get the car and trailer, thus
sparing Al the need to sail right into the totally windless beach area.
At the ramp, Al was soon joined by Dave and Carol, who, like Al, were
leaving tonight, having detours to make before heading off to Ottawa
for the weekend's Wayfarer Ontario Championships.

As Alan reports: "Thursday's sail was enjoyed by
four boats. Dick, Tom and Nel, Bill and Margie and Jerry
Beausoleil and myself. Jerry is a friend who joined me for
the day of sailing. We started at the
normal 10:30 plus a little. The winds were steady at 8 to 10
knots
from the south. We headed out for Wall Island. I was
prepared
to go through the Hole in the Wall from east to west. But Tom and
Dick noted that the winds were changing to the west and so we went through from west
to east. We then sailed back toward
Killbear, stopping for lunch on the beach behind Patterson
Island.
After lunch, three boats headed back to take out their boats to prepare for an early morning departure on Friday. Jerry and I sailed downwind between the islands to go around Huckleberry Island. The west winds continued and we tacked our way back to Lighthouse Beach by 5:00. Out with the last boat and the end of the cruising. Alan W7346" |
