Before heading home to Canada,
I had
to fly back to Helsinki. As the plane crossed the east coast of Sweden
on its way to Finland at about 10 a.m., it was very interesting to see
this fine illustration of thermal lift clouds building up over the
heated
land only. This of course, will later lead to a "sea breeze".

|
After a fun wait of five hours
in the
Helsinki airport, we were off to Toronto -
by way of Grønland. Summer in
Grønland:
no wonder Aida was happy to get home!
..
|
|
Of course, some of the
ice does
melt in the heat of August!
..
|
|
Wouldn't this be a fine
spot for
the DM 2003??
..
|
|
In the heat of the summer ...
..
|
|
... the glaciers begin to melt
and flow
down to the sea. Anyone for a swim??
..
|
|
It's pretty, though.
..
|
|
Pretty desolate, too!
..
|
|
Lots of fjords
..
|
|
Or perhaps the next
International Cruising
Rally? I bet there are not many bugs - nothing for them to live from!
..
|
|
7 p.m. on a Tuesday night as
the plane
crosses just north of Humber Bay, site of the 1976 and 1995 Worlds.
..
|
|
TS&CC is just to left of
where the
boats (white dots) are moored behind the breakwall.
Not many boats out for tonight's TSCC
club
race (centre).
|
|
Toronto Bay, Toronto Islands
and their
airport can be seen in the upper left.
..
|
|
Here you can also see Toronto's
Outer
Harbour (top) plus all of the Toronto Islands. For our annual
Around-the-Island
Race, we start off TSCC (lower left) and go around the Island
clockwise
or counter-clockwise with (booo!) no spinnakers permitted in the
harbour.
Doesn't look like that long a trip from this angle!
..
|
|
Heading west, we next flew over
the Port
Credit Yacht Club (inside the long spit), site of the 2004
Worlds.
To the lower right of the PCYC, you can see the Mississauga Sailing
Club
which will help with these Worlds.

Worlds will
be sailed.
