| After checking out both sides of
the course
and finding puffs on both sides with oscillating winds everywhere,
Anders
Pjetursson and I decided to start at the boat end so that we would have
the freedom to tack if the wind should swing to favour port tack on the
first beat of the trapezoid course shown below that was to be used for
all races. |
|
|
The line was nice and square to
the median
wind. Above, the fleet has just gotten away to a clean start.
Notice how Anders Friis (222) has
started
in mid-line...
..
|
|
... and, judging by the
apparent "length"
of his mast, is probably to windward and clear of the backwind
from Steen Madsen's black-hulled beauty
with
the raspberry-coloured deck.
..
|
|
Not much clear air left for Ole
Højlund
(5135) who just squeezes in at the pin end (note the pin flag donated
by
Mike Mac!). Per Christoffersen (4633) has tacked away to clear his air
and is keeping an admirable if optimistic eye out for right-of-way
boats.
Paul Knowlson (9116) has found a nice starboard tack lift (rummer?) and
may yet be trouble for 4633.

|
In the puffy small-lake
conditions, it
is essential to react quickly to puffs and keep the boat flat. Gasten
skulle
hænge and the helm should sit out more and have his knee against
the thwart (middle seat) - note the bow is out of the water and boat
heeling.
The sails however, look very nice.
..
|
|
Looks like rain on the water up
ahead
and Joel Bøgh has a knock (skraller?). Anders and I tacked on
our
first knock a minute or so off the line and looked very good for a
while.
But we should have followed the example of Joel who knows the lake very
well and held on to go far left!
..
|
|
Perfect form for Mogens Just
who has
tacked into a puff which has brought a permanent port tack rummer and
has
given all the boats that went well left more wind and a
20º
rummer, and moved them far ahead of Uncle Al who was still playing
small
oscillations up the right side! Rats!!!
..
|
|
Leading the pack around the
windward
and the wing mark onto the run were Søren and Lise Jonasen
(4123)
who had gone far left from the leeward (pin) end of the line and gotten
the biggest benefit from the new wind. Above, they have a nice lane of
clear air while second-place Anders Friis (222) has the double task of
trying to reduce Søren's lead and keeping Joel Bøgh,
Søren
Jensen and Steen Madsen from taking his wind! Not an easy task...
..
|
|
... as you can see! But it's a
beautiful
sight! I'm sure Furesøen has never looked better!! Uncle Al
(9355)
has ridden Anders Pjetursson's fine spi work back into top ten
contention
after rounding about 20th at the topmærke. If he and Stephan
Nandrup-Bus
(red spi) should meet, Uncle Al will be safely on starboard tack.
..
|
|
Søren and Lise (4123)
hold a nice
lead as they prepare to start the beat on the shorter side of the
trapezoid,

while Anders and Sune Sigsgaard (222)
have
their boat positioned to catch a bit of wind between Søren
Jensen
(10212) and Steen Madsen (pink spi). Uncle Al (9355) has tried to sail
down with the puffs with mixed success and has just been blanketed by
Stephan
(red spi). Several boats may have "room at the mark" on Al unless he
gets
lucky!
..
|
|
The leaders round onto the beat
back
up to the other wing mark (between 9355 and 4898). Some hope for Uncle
Al (9355) here as Mogens (4645) and Stephan (4898) may slow each other
down while Al has a nice clear air lane!
..
|
|
Hard to believe that anyone
could
have clear air in this mess which has certainly resulted in
some
odd spi shapes!
Will the father (Poul Ammentorp in 239)
catch
the son (Steen Ammentorp in 9733)???
..
|
|
Anders rounds 2nd - lots of
boats entitled
to room on Anders - if they can get there to take it! Looks
like
a real mess and slow rounding coming up for Søren Jensen
(10212),
Joel Bøgh (8278) and Steen Madsen (pink spi) all of whom are in
the fight for 3rd place at this point while Elisabeth Geday (6301) is
nicely
placed to take advantage should these three get tangled up at the mark!
Even Uncle Al was looking a bit better here but again went right when
he
should have gone left! Meanwhile, Anders Friis and Sune Sigsgaard were
free to attack the leaders. Both went left, and Anders managed to slip
past Søren just before the windward mark.
..
|
|
Søren and Lise gave it
everything
they had but Anders and Sune are very hard to catch once in the lead.
Note
the absolutely perfect form displayed by Anders and Sune as they drive
222 Wassail up the short broad reach from the leeward wing
mark
to the finish line! All alone in 2nd will be Søren and Lise!
Well
done, both crews!!
..
|
|
Some of the other leaders as
they near
the leeward wing mark and prepare for the short reach to the finish
line:
Out of the group above, (left to right) Joel would end up 4th,
Elisabeth
11th, Mogens 6th, Bo Christensen in 2042 13th, Uncle Al 7th, Poul 10th
and Flemming Nielsen in 5797 15th. All fine finishes in a 36-boat
fleet!!
..
|
|
Sune starts the spi takedown as
he and
Anders...
..
|
|
... cross the finish line in
first place.
..
|
|
Looking good as they finish 3rd
are Steen
Madsen and his daughter, Carina, in 9067 Mammut.
..
|
|
|
Joel Bøgh and Jon
Kjartansson
(left) sneak into 4th place ahead of Søren Jensen and Annette
Hansen
right at the finish.
|
| 8th place went to Per Larsen with
Steen Ammentorp
who edged out Stephan Nandrup-Bus with David Magnussen, and Poul and
Irene
Ammentorp. As mentioned, Elisabeth Geday and Ulla Riber took 11th as
they
beat out Jacob Knudsen with Peter Kirkegaard and Bo Christensen with
Thomas
Anderson. The Abbott Mark III piloted by Steen Schubert and Keld
Forchhammer
had problems finding the right side to go to like Uncle Al and placed
14th
while Flemming Nielsen and Henrik Frengler rounded out the top 15.
Best races: Making their
first race
their best of the series were
-
our late entrants, Mr. Fogh and Mr.
Bjerregaard
in 6137 with a most respectable 19th. Well done, guys!
