A beautifully backlit Mac Thomas (1142) approaches the gybe mark just ahead of Eric Kirby ...
...

... as the RC stands by.
...

At the gybe mark, it will be Kipp and Anne Sylvester (1336) in 2nd place, with ...
...

... Three Gawthrop and Craig Bouck (1257) sitting 4th ahead of Jim and Alice Hill (1236) and a ...
...

... bunch of others who have a legitimate shot at 5th around the mark as well.

Frustratingly soft winds but everyone looks very well trimmed.

...

Kipp and Anne gybe onto their second reach, which will be a fairly close one, what with the wind having veered fairly dramatically. Note that John and Laura Kupers (2136) have come in from going left on this leg and still lie a comfortable 3rd.

...

Yep. It's a much closer reach on this leg all right.

...

A nice downwind leg for Three and Craig who will round 4th, just ...
...

... ahead of Becky (2756) and Dave (282).
...

Peter and Peggy (1979) round just ahead of Charles and Bill (1186).
...
Peter Welles captures some of the action - a good spot for it!!
...

The leeward mark: It appears that Dave (282) has passed a boat or two on the second reach as he ...
...
... rounds ahead of some very good sailors: Jim Hill (1236), Mike Codd (red shirt) and Becky (2756).
...

With his sail in this early, Jim (1236) is stalling out which is much worse for speed than a luffing sail
- perhaps the switch method that Marc and I use would be useful?
...

If Jim were luffing his main here to slow down until he sees if he gets to cut inside Becky (2756),
he would get a nice push forward by a rapid sheeting in of his main at the right moment.
...

Charles and Bill (1186) have their sails perfectly trimmed (but watch for the tangled mainsheet!) Behind Charles are:
...

(l to r) John Hershey, Steve Macklin, Eric Kirby and Jake Dann who all look overtrimmed to various degrees.
Remember: when in doubt let it out!
