Subject: Many Thanks to LTYC Mayors Cup Contributors & Congratulations to Competitors

Hey Everyone,

I, the LTYC Board, and the entire LTYC community wish to thank the many folks who helped make this weekend's 46th Annual Mayor's Cup Regatta a great success!

But first, the winners:

Congratulations go to LTYC's own AnnMarie Covington (with her crew Gareth Ferguson), on her Wayfarer "Intrepid", won the Mayor's Cup, thereby returning it to LTYC from a year away at Lake Norman Yacht Club.

Did you know that AnnMarie appears to be either the 1st or 2nd female winner of the Mayors Cup in its entire 46 year history? (We need to decipher one name on the winner-plates to confirm which.)

As those of us who tried to keep up with her know, AnnMarie is truly a formidable competitor and decisively won the weekend. Well Done!

And Congratulations go to Steven Jones, with his son, Anderson, who, on their Flying Scot, won the Bryan Cup. Well Done!

It was also nice to see multihulls back at Lake Townsend after being MIA during Covid!  Thanks Weta peoples.

The weekend provided superb wind and temperature conditions for the Wayfarer, Flying Scot, Weta and Open Fleets.   The social events were excellent.  And Lake Townsend Staff set us up with parking spaces and overnight storage priviledges to avoid the not infrequent conflicts with the fishing community.

  • Sid Hale deserves special recognition for his Yeoman's work getting our website, regatta registration and payment-processing going well.  He also helped design the Tee-Shirts, replaced the RC radios, and advised the team on multiple topics.
  • Thank you Race-Committee including PRO Alan Backus, Scorer Pat Backus with help from Linda Heffernan on flag duty. They set great courses and had to deal with some real wind shifts. On Scat 1, Phil Leonard and Paul Fisher diligently moved marks.  On Scat 2 - JC Aller, Ron Washburn and Marty Gammon also set marks.
  • Thanks go to Scott Bogue and his beautiful skiff for guiding Lynn Abram, our photographer, and Steve Shepard, a recent sailing education graduate, who is planning some drone footage for us at a future event.   As usual, Scott also stepped in to help anywhere he could.
  • Thanks go to the Social / Shore Support team including Judi Matthews, Gail Walters, Wanda Williams (looking fabulous and once more back at LTYC events making wonderful desserts), Nancy Torkewitz, Scot Bogue, Trish McDermott and Dave DeMiranda and others.  The food and drink were excellent.
  • Thank you drinks people (Mark Green and Mark Wilson).
  • Thanks to Ron Washburn for setting up the feather flags and helping anywhere it was needed.
  • And thanks to AnnMarie Covington who helped select the trophies.
  • Finally, thanks to those who stepped up to decorate Shelter 10 and helped clean up at the end of each day.

The scores are attached and, as you can see, the competition was tough. We also enjoyed competition from John and Mary Driver who won the day against the Wayfarer fleet at the Helly Hansen NOODs at Annapolis a few weeks ago.  And it was good to see Uncle Al Schonborn enjoy the day.  Of course, Jim Heffernan with Julia Karelina continued to challenge the fiberglass Mark IV's on his woody and without a spinnaker, no less.

All in all, a great time!

Final Scores are attached!

Hope to see all out there!  Please join us as members if you have done so already!

Let's Go Sailing!

Andy
